What Volunteer Opportunities Does Kinark-Durham Offer You?
Special Friends:
Volunteers are matched with a specific child to share weekly activities in the
community and provide the child with a positive role model. An average of 4 hours a week is
required. Male and culturally diverse volunteers are especially needed. Mileage
and some expenses are reimbursed.
Group Volunteers:
Volunteers assist Kinark staff in the delivery of various groups. They are needed
to supervise children while their parents are in a therapeutic group themselves.
A commitment for the entire series is required.
These volunteers may also co-facilitate the children’s groups.
Respite Host Family:
Couples, singles and/or families are needed to provide respite for a family.
The volunteer family will be matched with a specific child for a six month
commitment, enjoying family focused activities and spending time in the
volunteer’s home.
Volunteer Drivers:
Drivers assist our client families in attending office sessions, groups
and individual therapy sessions. They also ensure that our pre-schoolers
are able to attend our Day Nursery program. Mileage is reimbursed.
Program Support:
Volunteers are needed to support staff in our Day Treatment and Day
Nursery classrooms as well as in our Residential program.
Parent to Parent Volunteers:
Volunteers, who are parents themselves, offer emotional and practical
support to a parent who is experiencing difficulty. They may also assist
the parent in connecting to community resources. Weekly contact is required.
Community Advisory Committee:
Committee members assist Kinark in assessing policies and procedures and
identifying any service needs. Members also assist in fundraising and
community information fairs. Committee meets every other month at the
Whitby office.

- Screening costs fully reimbursed
