Sharon Cochran, Chair of the Board

Sharon joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2018. Sharon currently acts as Chair of the Board and sits as a member of the Finance and Audit, Governance and HR, and Quality Committees.

Sharon is a senior administrator with extensive experience in the post-secondary education system. Her areas of expertise include financial services, human resources management, facilities, and capital management, purchasing, risk operations and business development, in public and private organizations.

Sharon has held several senior executive positions including the Director of the Canadian Association of University Business Officers, Vice President of Special Projects and Vice President of Administration and Finance at the University of Northern British Columbia. Prior to this, she was an Associate Vice-President of Human Resources for the University of Saskatchewan and Director of Academic Relations for Simon Fraser University.

Sharon holds a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of British Columbia and has achieved the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. She also has several years of Board experience and currently serves as Board Trustee at the Abilities Centre.

Caren Narvet, Vice Chair of the Board

Caren Narvet joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2014. She currently acts as the Vice Chair of the Board and sits on the Finance and Audit Committee.

Caren acts as Chief Financial Officer for Mitigokaa Development Corp. developing Community-owned, baseload renewable electricity for remote locations.

Caren co-founded Tonbridge in 2003 and served as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Tonbridge Power Inc., from 2005 to 2011, where she was responsible for its financial control and reporting and regulatory functions. Prior to this, she was a commercial banker with Bank of Montreal (BMO). Caren has experience working with both public and private companies and has worked with companies in a wide variety of industries.

Caren is a graduate of Victoria College, University of Toronto and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario.

She was also a director of Delisle Youth Services, a multi-service non-profit agency serving families and youth in crisis in Toronto for three years and served as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee for the organization during her tenure.

Peter Zukow, Secretary of the Board

Peter Zukow joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2016. He currently acts as the Secretary of the Board and as Chair of the Governance Committee.

Over the past 21 years, Peter has been a driving force in the professional and executive search community recruiting the very best talent in a wide cross section of industries.

Peter has a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics from the University of Western Ontario and has obtained his AESC Advanced Certificate in Executive Search and Leadership from Cornell University.
Peter is an active member of Presidents of Enterprising Organizations (PEO) and a Member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL).

Morlan Reddock, Treasurer of the Board

Morlan joined the Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in 2022. He currently acts as the Treasurer of the Board and is the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee.

Morlan is currently a Chief Financial Officer and has previously held many senior leadership positions including Director of Finance, Treasury and Investor Relations at a National media company.

Morlan is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, the CFO Leadership Council (Toronto Chapter) and Financial Executives International (FEI). Further, Morlan is a CPA, CFA, and holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management, a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Concordia University and has completed Executive Leadership training at the Ivey School of Business. Morlan also teaches Finance and Accounting courses at a local college.

Sunil Mistry, Member of the Board (Past Chair)

Sunil Mistry joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2013. He currently acts as a member of the Governance and HR Committee. He previously served as Chair of the Board, Vice-Chair of the Board, and the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee. 

Sunil is an Audit Partner with over 20 years of experience. His clients include private companies that are private equity or venture backed, entrepreneur owned or local subsidiaries of larger private foreign corporations. These include high growth technology and professional service-based companies. Throughout his career, he has developed in-depth knowledge and has dealt with numerous matters regarding accounting and reporting issues including US GAAP, IFRS, and Canadian private enterprise standards. 

Sunil is also a member of his company’s Startups Network. In this role, he coordinates with offices around the world and brings back best practice to the Canadian practice for global initiatives, as it relates to working with the innovation ecosystem including entrepreneurs, fast growing private equity and venture backed companies.

Sharon Baker, Member of the Board

Sharon Baker joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in 2019. Sharon currently acts as a member of the Quality Committee.

Sharon has over 25 years of experience supporting and serving Boards including private, non-profit, public sector and fundraising. She brings expertise in the areas of non-profit shared services leadership (governance and management), strategic development, and execution and outcomes based/innovation procurement.

Over the course of her career, Sharon has assumed various leadership roles in the health care sector with increased responsibility in the health system transformation particularly in the areas of eHealth, digital health and virtual care.

Sharon is a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. She is a designated director with the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD). She held a number of volunteer board positions with Ontario Shores Health Centre and Ontario Shores Foundation. She currently serves as Vice-Chair at the Board of Scientists in School.

AJ Balasingham, Member of the Board

AJ Balasingham joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in October 2020, and sits as a member of the Governance and HR Committee.
AJ has extensive expertise in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. He also brings experience in criminal justice, education and public policy.

AJ is a professor for the specialized Academic Certificate Program in Inclusive Leadership Practices at a local college. His courses focus on creating inclusive cultures in the contemporary workplace, intersectionality, inclusive leadership models and cultural intelligence. He has served as a police constable and brings over 12 years of volunteer experience with a local autism agency.

AJ is a PhD Candidate in Social and Cultural Analysis in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. His doctoral research focuses on Canadian refugee policy and the intersection between law and group identity. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration specializing in Migration and Ethnic Relations, and an Honours Bachelors of Arts in Political Science, both from the University of Western Ontario.

Orchid Jahanshahi, Member of the Board

Orchid Jahanshahi joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in October 2020. Orchid currently sits as a member of the Quality Committee.

Orchid is the Founder/CEO of an advisory venture that bridges commercial solutions between BioPharma and Tech. She brings a unique cross-expertise between the Life Sciences and the Canadian Tech/Startup communities. With 30 years of operational experience in numerous Commercial roles at six Fortune 500 pharma companies, she helped bring numerous therapeutic solutions to health care professionals and patients across various therapeutic areas in Canada and Global markets. Since 2020, Orchid has been working, investing and advising in early-stage life science companies that use AI and tech to advance health care solutions to reduce patients’ time to therapy. Orchid is also an advisor and mentor for various incubators and accelerators in Canada.

As the cross-company Champion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at a large pharmaceutical company, Orchid led various educational forums and managerial trainings, and remains deeply committed to DEI as core organizational values.

Orchid holds an MBA and is bilingual in English and French.

Dr. Christopher Jyu, Member of the Board

Dr. Christopher Jyu joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2018. Dr. Jyu currently sits as a member of the Governance and HR Committee.

Dr. Jyu has over 30 years of experience practicing medicine in a variety of settings that includes private clinics, hospital emergency departments and after-hours clinics. He has championed many major initiatives, including the creation of the first after-hours patient care delivery system in 1989, the creation of the first Family Health Group (FHG) in Scarborough in 2003, and the implementation of the first Alternative Funding Arrangement (AFA) Program at the Emergency Department in the Scarborough Hospital in 2004.

Dr. Jyu has dedicated innumerable hours every year to various national and provincial associations and organizations including the Ontario Medical Association, Canadian Medical Association, and Local Health Integration Networks with the objective of making a difference in the health care system in Ontario and Canada. He has also served on numerous provincial expert panels, national task forces, and committees to help shape the public policy landscape in Ontario and Canada.

Dr. Jyu had served on several Boards including Ontario Medical Association and Canadian Medical Association and served on several national task groups at the Canadian Medical Association. He is a graduate of the joint Physician Leadership Development Program from Ontario Medical Association, Canadian Medical Association & Schulich School of Management. He has an MBA and holds the credential of Canadian Certified Physician Executive. He has also achieved the ICD designation.

Donna Kingelin, Member of the Board

Donna Kingelin joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2017. Donna currently sits as the Chair of the Quality Committee and has previously served as the Vice Chair and Chair of the Human Resources Committee and as a member of the Governance Committee.

Donna Kingelin is the owner and Managing Partner of a consulting company specializing in the seniors’ housing market. She brings over 30 years of experience in this industry and a comprehensive knowledge of operations. Her experience includes the administration of nursing homes, independent retirement homes, assisted living complexes, skilled nursing facilities and home care, in public and private organizations.

Donna is a Registered Nurse by profession and has completed executive management training. She also has earned the ICD.D designation. She currently serves as a Board Trustee at Lakeridge Health Corporation, at Oshawa Power & Utilities Corporation, and at Extendicare.

Robin MacKnight, Member of the Board

Robin MacKnight joined the Kinark Board of Directors in June 2016. He currently sits as a member of the Quality Committee.

Robin has retired from his tax law practice which included tax, business and estate planning and implementation, dispute resolution with federal and provincial revenue authorities and public policy submissions to all levels of government. He is currently working on his PhD in Law at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Robin holds the highest (AV Pre-Eminent) rating issued by Martindale-Hubbell, an international peer review process based upon the confidential opinions of lawyers and judges. He also holds the Advanced Certificate in Family Business Advising from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Robin has served on several advisory committees to the Canada Revenue Agency and industry associations. He has been involved in STEP Canada for many years and received a Founders Award in 2015 for services to STEP. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Trust Quarterly Reviews, published by STEP and The Association of Corporate Trustees.

Anthony Milonas, Member of the Board

Anthony Milonas joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2023. He currently sits as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee.

Anthony has held senior executive roles in private equity, public, and privately held companies and spent time working in the US, Canada and in Europe. Anthony sits on several boards, including Young President’s Organization, Canadian Abilities Foundation (CAF), and several health care advisory boards.

Anthony holds a Masters Certificate in Healthcare Management, a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Business Administration, Green Belt in Lean/ Six Sigma and is fluent in English, French and Greek.

Tom Schmidt, Member of the Board

Tom Schmidt joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2014. Tom sits on the Finance and Audit Committee and is the Chair of the Kinark Foundation Board of Directors.

Tom is a co-founder and Managing Director of a merger and acquisition advisory firm. He has 35 years of senior executive experience, having lead teams for multinational companies in the life sciences markets in Canada, USA and Internationally. His operational management experience in both large and early-stage companies has given him a good understanding of key business success factors in a broad range of product and service market sectors. He actively works to support the organizations where he serves as a Director by sharing his corporate experience and learning.

Tom is a graduate of the University of Guelph and earned his professional Institute of Corporate Directors designation (ICD-D) in 2011.

Tom is actively engaged in serving his community, in the area of social services as well as supporting charity work and professional organizations by serving on corporate and advisory boards.

Ron St. Pierre, Member of the Board

Ron St. Pierre joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in June 2023. He currently sits on the Finance and Audit Committee.

Ron previously held the position of Managing Partner with over 30 years of experience. As Managing Partner, he was entrusted with managing a large region with over 45 offices and a geography that included East & Northern Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces while executing the firm’s strategic plan. As Strategic Leader of Talent he was also responsible for developing and leading the strategic direction and initiatives relating to human resources which included all aspects ranging from Professional Development, Recruitment, HR policies and management, Performance and Compensation and Diversity and Inclusion.

Ron is currently providing consulting services and has assisted companies with their CFO requirements. He is also a Part Time Instructor at a local college.
Ron is a Chartered Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Business Valuator (CBV). He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Ryna Young, Member of the Board

Ryna Young joined Kinark Child and Family Services’ Board of Directors in September 2023. Ryna currently sits as a member of the Governance and HR Committee.

Ryna is a Partner and the Head of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Practice. In her role as Head of DEI, Ryna oversees the development and integration of DEI expertise through its executive search, leadership development onboarding, coaching, and cultural transformation services.

Ryna is a seasoned practitioner with a track record of nearly 25 years actively leading assignments in executive search, DEI strategy, and coaching.
In addition to her work with clients, Ryna also leads internal DEI initiatives which include the firm’s Ally Network and colleague training and has served as a speaker and facilitator on various topics including diversity, equity, and inclusion.
