Community-based health care depends on strong connections across services, including clinical care, mental health and autism supports, schools, and community programs. When these systems work together, care is more seamless; when they do not, families can face gaps, delays, and added challenges in navigating support.

At Kinark, collaboration is essential to ensuring children and youth remain at the centre of care, regardless of how complex their needs may be. Strengthening partnerships across the mental health and autism sectors helps reduce fragmentation and eases the burden on families by creating more coordinated and consistent experiences.

This year, Kinark advanced this work by improving service alignment, deepening partnerships, and fostering shared learning. Leadership within the York Simcoe Autism Network (YSAN) strengthened coordination across the system, while continued engagement through the Client Experience and Quality Table ensured that service improvements were informed by family perspectives.

The Table brings together six family members and representatives from all service providers in a unique, sector-leading model and works to better understand the needs of clients and communities, set shared direction, and take action in partnership.

Survey results indicate that families feel YSAN supports effective service coordination among providers, with more than 90% of caregivers agreeing that staff work together to support their family and have a plan in place for when they complete their program. Gathering feedback at the regional level has been invaluable to quality planning and collaboration among YSAN partners and families. This information deepens our understanding of family experiences within the autism sector and helps enable access, reduce barriers, and support smoother transitions across autism services and cross-sector partners.

This commitment extends to knowledge sharing and sector leadership. Kinark contributed to research and learning across the field, including recognition for interdisciplinary training work published in Evidence-Based Practice in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, highlighting our role in advancing best practices.

Through strong partnerships and shared learning, Kinark is helping to build a more connected system of care where services are coordinated, expertise is integrated, and families are better supported.
